How do you get a fuller sound from vocals..?


What would be a better way to mix..?

My problem is... vocals not being louder than beat (fixable by me... so no big deal) but... the vocals sound... I don't know... flat or spacey... no real warmth or oomph... You know what I'm talking about... so... what would help..?

I'm not even going to front like I know the perfect way to mix. I follow the "Alcatrakz Process", lol. I'm still learning, myself. But, I think the answer to your problem is upgrading your setup. It would definatly help. Peep the thread Tax started here..talking about "what an upgraded setup does"..it does wonders. His vocals on the track were a lot warmer and more in depth.

yea honestly, you probably could stand getting a nice mic preamp. Nothing like a tube to warm you up real quick.

i have a damn vacuum tube mic, with a vacuum tube preamp... so my shit is wam as fuck to the point i have to take wamrness out to sound good.

you could probably sound good with a transparent mic pre, like a grace 101 or something. That would bring out the natural warmth in that rode mic.

your audio interface is nice as fuck.
you just need the mic preamp to compliment it.

and you also need to get a new mic honestly... cuz your beyond rode nt1 level with everything else.

i honestly think its the tubes in the hardware... i've made wonderful experiences recording straight thru an outboard compressor as well. it gives it an ill feel...

dont forget the pre-delay on your reverb... pre-delay up brings you closer to the mic, pre-delay down takes you further away... that matters a lot on the fullness...

im assumin you know how to hook up your reverbs, echos, compressors to make your vocals sound fuller as well...

I don't think you get what I'm saying... I'm not talking about "real" sound... I'm talking raw vocals... know what I mean..? maybe not... I don't think I'm explaining it right... Maybe people want to be in control of there own music, and learn how to operate shit themselves. He's already invested a sizable amount of money into his setup, and he is on his way to being able to create some real quality shit. Stop acting like it's something wrong with home studios.
