KKK Fliers Found in Ladson, SC Neighborhood
Ladson, SC (CNN, WCSC) -- Residents of a Ladson, SC neighborhood say they found pamphlets in their neighborhood that urged readers to join the Ku Klux Klan.
African-American recipient Genevieve Henderson said each of the fliers had the printed words, "Save our land. Join the Klan." She was one of at least five people in the neighborhood near Interstate 26 to receive one of the fliers.
"I was just floored," Henderson said. She said that her grandson was the one to find the flier at the end of her driveway.
"This is not funny," Henderson said, "If it was children, or whatever, this is not funny."
Henderson's neighbor, who lives two doors down from her, also received one of the pamphlets, and he says his mailbox was dented.
"This is terrible," said neighbor Eddie Shepard, "I found this package in the mailbox, and you can see what it is. It gave the phone number, and it actually gave the website. Shepard said it's the first time he's seen such a problem during the seven years he's lived in the neighborhood.
Another neighbor said he saw an SUV driving up and down the street at about 1 a.m. Monday morning, but did not get a good look at the driver.
"This is my first time, and I hope it's my last time," Henderson said. "We are from a loving family, and this neighborhood is a loving neighborhood. To have something like this to destroy it, it hurts.
