but what would be the point in shady starting up a label if at the end of it all Dre can end it.. surely the point in starting up a label is to bring through artists you want and to be the boss? why did Shady not start up an independant label? would his contract stop him?

contractual limitations would probably stop him, unless they added a clause in his contract were he can start a indie label.

but i seriously doubt dr dre would let a big artist of his start a label up without him getting in on the money.

plus artists usually dont make enough money to start independent labels, so they sign there labels under a more major one. Look at Nas with the Ill Will label. He made Ill Will a subsidary of Columbia records. Columbia funds Ill Will, and there is probably a contract stating that they pay for promotion of Ill Will, and marketing for it.

50 Cent is a brand name now. It's owned by Dr Dre and Eminem. He probably doesnt even own his own masters (for his solo albums). Dre or Eminem probably own them all.

This is big business.
